Addressing supporters in Żurrieq, Robert Abela said he was proud that the campaign had once again demonstrated what the Labour movement stands for: opportunity, aspiration and potential.

He described the movement as one that belongs to everyone, i.e. workers, young people starting out in life, aspiring entrepreneurs and all those determined to move forward. “This is the movement that turns dreams into reality,” he said.

Abela praised supporters for opening the movement to people from different political backgrounds who, he said, shared a commitment to the country’s wellbeing. Since then, he added, the movement had evolved from a dream into “a wave of change” that enabled Malta to progress and compete successfully with larger countries in areas such as the economy, employment, wealth distribution and civil rights.

Turning to the Labour Party’s electoral manifesto, Abela said it had been written “by the Maltese and Gozitan people themselves” and was centred on supporting citizens at every stage of life, “from before birth to old age”.

He warned that the movement would begin to fail the moment it ignored the struggles of ordinary people, insisting that Labour had always stood by workers and businesses during difficult periods and had guided the country “through every storm around us”.

The Prime Minister said the movement continued to attract first-time voters and new supporters because they believed in what he described as the “Int Malta” project. He urged undecided voters to participate in the democratic process and reflect on which side had shown competence, concrete ideas and leadership throughout the campaign.

“The dream belongs to all of you,” Abela said. “And with your trust, we can continue turning it into reality.” He ended by urging supporters to collect their vote and support all Labour Party candidates in Saturday’s election.
