Alex Agius Saliba re-elected S&D vice president

The Head of the Maltese delegation in the S&D expressed his sincere gratitude to his colleagues for re-electing him for another term.

The Head of the Maltese delegation in the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D) in the European Parliament, Alex Agius Saliba, has just been re-elected Vice President of the Group.

The S&D has nine vice-presidents who, together with its President and a treasurer form the Group’s Bureau, the body that co-ordinates its political activity. Individual vice-presidents are in charge of specific EU policy portfolios and supervise cross-committee issues. Two others are responsible for the S&D Group’s communications and for the co-ordination of parliamentary business.

On his Facebook page, Agius Saliba expressed his sincere gratitude to his colleagues for re-electing him for another term. He promised to continue working in the best interests of the Maltese people.

Alex Agius Saliba was first elected Group Vice President in December 2021, after receiving a strong mandate by his colleagues, garnering 85% of the votes of the S&D MEPs.

On Tuesday, the S&D confirmed Iratxe García Pérez as its President.

On Facebook, Prime Minister and Labour Party leader Robert Abela described Alex Agius Saliba’s re-election as S&D Vice President as a confirmation not only of his incessant work but also of the respect he enjoys within the European Parliament. He expressed his hope that the MEP’s future work would continue to bring positive outcomes for Malta.
