The young politician that seemed so adamant to break with the PN’s negative approach to politics is already gone. In his two hour speech Alex Borg delivered what will be remembered as one of the most negative budget speech reactions ever. This is sad indeed. This is the epitome of the PN’s gravest problem. In just a few months they sucked the positivity out of what seemed to be a young and promising politician, already reduced to not even a shadow of what he seemed to be.

The speech characterised from beginning to end by profound negativity and statements based on inaccuracies throughout. At his first big chance when the nation was all ears to what he had to say he offered no direction, no vision. Just rhetoric, hollow rhetoric, and hysterical crescendos all ending in a big anticlimax. The speech was so empty, that it is impossible to make an in depth critique of what was said.

If Bernard Grech’s draft pre-budget document had no beef, Alex Borg’s reaction was all sizzle and no steak.

Not only did the speech not provide details on what the PN is proposing and how it will be implemented, but it was evident that the Opposition Leader is not taking his task seriously by presenting himself unprepared, making numerous unfounded statements that will haunt him for weeks to come.

Malta deserves respect, today the Opposition Leader let it down.
