Minister Julia Farrugia visits Gżira project, being carried out through a €250,000 investment

Work on Malta’s first Day Centre specifically designed for elderly persons with disabilities is progressing well, with 50% of the project now completed.

The centre, located in Gżira, is being developed through a total investment of €250,000 and is expected to open its doors by the end of October.

The announcement was made by Minister for Inclusion and Volunteering, Julia Farrugia, during a visit to the site attended by Permanent Secretary Stephanie Rocco and officials from Aġenzija Sapport. The Minister explained that the centre will provide the support required to address the diverse needs of elderly persons with disabilities who currently attend day services operated by the agency.

Minister Farrugia revealed that, once operational, the centre will offer specialised services to 35 elderly individuals, in addition to providing meals and transport. She noted that the project forms part of the 2026 Budget measures and said the Government is once again delivering on its commitment to establish the specialised facility.

Meanwhile, Oliver Scicluna, Chief Executive Officer of Aġenzija Sapport, described the initiative as a reflection of the agency’s commitment to expanding specialised services.
