This is one of a string of other sectoral deals concluded since 2022.

The Maltese government has signed a new sectoral agreement described as the largest investment to date in workers within the Civil Protection Department.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Prime Minister Robert Abela said he was proud to lead a country that continues to invest heavily in its workforce. He explained that the agreement strengthens working conditions and improves career progression opportunities for officers within the department, which plays a crucial role in national safety.

In his address, Abela emphasized that each sectoral agreement signed represents another step forward in improving the livelihoods of workers and their families.

He noted that this agreement is one of nearly 140 sectoral deals concluded since 2022. Over the same period, the government has invested around €2 billion solely in wage increases, an effort he said was made possible by Malta’s strong economic performance.

This latest deal follows a previous sectoral agreement for Civil Protection workers signed in 2021, further building on reforms in the sector.
