The PN has consistently positioned itself as a party that stands above the law and that respects institutions only when it suits it. The never respected party financing law is a case in point.

However, all had to change. Alex Borg promised a different PN. One that particularly respects the Speaker of the House Anglu Farrguia. Borg was the only Nationalist MP that had defended the Speaker following one of Karol Aquilina’s tantrums in the House.

Fast forward a few months and the ambition of the young leader to do things differently seems to have been fully suffocated by the old PN. And this is very sad news for Malta. Malta was crying to see a fresh approach and a credible and constructive Opposition to hold the Government in check where it matters. Not a bunch of adrenaline hungry individuals that say no just for the sake of saying no.

As we reported a few days ago link, after the PN’s Home Affairs spokesperson chose to go creative and lie about Minister Byron Camilleri, the Speaker of the House ordered the Communication Office of the Nationalist Party to immediately remedy the situation.

And the situation was very serious as it was noted that unfaithful reports of Parliament’s procedures are to be treated as contempt of Parliament.

And Guess What? Not only do they chronically fail to learn from their mistakes, they dug themselves even deeper, ignoring the ruling, and leaving the Speaker with no choice but to refer the PN officials and NET News editor to the Privileges Committee.

A wolf in a sheep’s skin? Not at all. They don’t even bother about that. This is a frontal confrontation to the man that runs the highest institution of the country.
