A week-long Easter festival blending science, art and nature will take over Malta’s main interactive science centre this April.

The programme, titled “An eARThistic Easter”, was officially launched at Esplora Interactive Science Centre by Parliamentary Secretary for Youth, Research and Innovation Keith Azzopardi Tanti alongside Esplora Director Vince Micallef Pulè.

Running from 6 to 12 April 2026, the initiative will transform the Kalkara-based science centre into a hub of hands-on STEAM activities, encouraging children and families to explore the natural world through experimentation, creativity and play.

Built around the STEAM approach — Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics — the programme forms part of the work of Xjenza Malta to promote informal science learning outside the classroom.

The festival will feature interactive science shows, creative workshops and sensory experiences designed for different age groups.

Activities will explore topics such as animal communication, biomechanics in nature, and the science of light and colour, while younger children will also be able to participate in sensory-based experiences tailored to early childhood learning.

According to Esplora director Vince Micallef Pulè, the programme aims to make science accessible and inclusive while strengthening environmental awareness.

“Through hands-on activities, families will be encouraged to observe natural phenomena and experiment with materials inspired by the environment,” he said.

“Our goal is to show that scientific exploration can happen through creativity and play.”

Organisers say the initiative also aims to spark curiosity among young visitors, encouraging them to continue exploring science beyond the festival.
