Kafè Ewropa: EU green agenda, Council voting explained

Tune in to ‘Kafè Ewropa’ to hear MEP Cyrus Engerer discuss the EU's environmental agenda plus expert insights on AI and the electoral campaign, on the system used by our Ministers to vote in Council, and more.

What is the European Union doing for the environment and how is Malta faring in the implemention of the Union’s environmental agenda? Friday’s edition of Kafè Ewropa, One Radio’s weekly European election talk show, will discuss the issue with sitting MEP Cyrus Engerer (S&D), a member of the European Parliament’s Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI).

This week too, the programme promises another exciting lineup of guests. Academic Martin Debattista, who is a researcher on digital media, will share his insights on whether the widespread influence of AI that has been witnessed abroad has reached our shores and impacted the current electoral campaign.

Leandro Borg, Director General of the EU Coordinaton Department, will talk about the Qualified Majority Voting (QMV), the system used in the Council of the European Union to make most decisions without the need for unanimity but also requiring more than a simple majority.

Joining from Luxembourg is Joe Izzo Clarke, Head of the Maltese Language Division at the Court of Justice of the EU. He will explain why this essential institution is the backbone of a fair and lawful European Union.

The programme will also go live to Berlin and Athens. H.E. Vanni Xuereb, Malta’s Ambassador to Germany, and H.E. Joseph Cuchieri, Ambassador to Greece and Cyprus (who has also served as an MEP) will shed light on the mood in those countries as they brace themselves for the upcoming European elections, the Maltese disapora, and how EU membership affects bilateral relations with Malta.

Former MEP and candidate for the upcoming European elections, Claudette Abela Baldacchino, will talk about the key issues that have consistently come up in her conversations with the electorate during the current election campaign.

To ensure listeners are in the loop on the electoral process, Louis Gatt, Head of the PL’s Electoral Office, will be providing the most up-to-date information.

This Friday don’t miss Kafè Ewropa, the weekly talk show hosted by Sandro Mangion, editor of The Journal. The programme kicks off on One Radio (92.7FM) at 9am and then simulcasts live on One TV from 9.50am until 11am.
