In the first half of 2023, foreign direct investment in Malta reached a new record. According to the National Statistics Office, at the end of last June the value of foreign direct investment, excluding financial services assets, amounted to €11.3 billion.

Compared to June a year earlier, there was an increase of more than €856 million in foreign direct investment. Just under half of this growth was in the transport, accomodation and property sector. There has also been a sharp increase in the value of foreign investment in the manufacturing sector, reaching a record figure of €2.8 billion, after an increase of almost €213 million over just 12 months. Official figures also indicate that there was an increase of around €177 million in foreign direct investment in information and communication, professional and technical services, and gaming. In other sectors of the Maltese economy foreign investment increased by over €87 million.

These results reflect the large number of investment projects that have been approved by Malta Enterprise. In fact, last April it was announced that more than a hundred investment projects had been approved, which were expected to create more than a thousand new careers.
