Germany started their Group E World Cup campaign with a comfortable 7-1 win over tournament debutants Curacao.

Felix Nmecha gave Germany the lead after six minutes, but Curacao responded through Livano Comenencia, who scored the country’s first-ever FIFA World Cup goal to make it 1-1.

Germany regained control before the break as Nico Schlotterbeck headed home and Kai Havertz converted a penalty to give his side a 3-1 lead at half-time.

The Germans continued to dominate in the second half, with Jamal Musiala, Nathaniel Brown and Deniz Undav adding further goals.

Havertz scored his second of the match to complete a convincing 7-1 victory.

The result gives Germany three points from their opening Group E fixture, while Curacao will look to build on a historic moment despite the defeat.
