New national crafts strategy aligned with Malta Vision 2050 to be unveiled Friday.

The Government launched a National Strategy for the crafts sector and announced plans for a major new Family Entertainment Park at the Ta’ Qali Artisan Village, a project set to span more than 13,000 square metres, roughly one and a half times the size of the National Stadium pitch.

The announcements were made by Minister for the Economy, Enterprise and Strategic Projects Silvio Schembri, who described the twin initiatives as part of a broader effort to strengthen Malta’s cultural and economic fabric.

Speaking at the launch, the Minister said the strategy is aligned with Malta Vision 2050, which aims to build a secure and resilient nation rooted in its identity.

“Maltese cultural heritage encompasses our identity, history, customs, traditions and artisanal skills,” he said. “Crafts are an essential part of who we are. Through this strategy, we are not only protecting the sector but helping it adapt to today’s realities through innovation, ensuring these skills are preserved and continue to evolve for future generations.”

The strategy outlines a phased implementation plan and will be subject to ongoing monitoring to ensure it remains relevant and effective. Its overarching objective is to strengthen the Maltese artisanal product while supporting long-term sector growth.

As part of wider plans to further enhance the Ta’ Qali Artisan Village, Minister Schembri confirmed that a Request for Proposals (RFP) will be issued in the coming days for the development of a Family Entertainment Park within the complex.

The proposed park is intended to serve as a high-quality recreational destination that complements the surrounding artisan workshops and retail outlets.

The initiative forms part of a broader regeneration effort aimed at transforming Ta’ Qali into a more dynamic cultural and family-oriented destination.

Minister Schembri thanked the Malta Crafts Foundation, INDIS and Malta Investments & Economic Advisory Ltd (MIEA) for their collaboration in developing what he described as a holistic vision for the sector and for Maltese and Gozitan families.
