Ian Borg and Alex Agius Saliba have been confirmed as Labour’s Deputy Leader for Parliamentary Affairs and Deputy Leader for Party Affairs respectively, following the party delegates’ vote in elections held on Friday and the Saturday. They both ran for their respective posts uncontested.

In these elections, there were 757 registered voters and a turnout of 721, or 95.24%

Ian Borg received overwhelming support, winning 678 votes (95.8% of the total). Only 30 delegates voted against him, and 13 abstained. Alex Agius Saliba was also elected with a very strong majority, receiving 635 votes (92.3%). There were 53 votes against him, 28 abstentions, and five invalid ballots.

The party delegates also voted for the Labour Party’s Administration. Alex Sciberras has been elected as the party’s new President while John Grech is the new International Secretary. Louis Gatt and William Lewis were automatically confirmed as Vice President and Organising Secretary respectively since they were not contested.

The Labour Party delegates also voted for the twelve members of the National Executive Committee. These are:

The General Conference closes with a speech by the Prime Minister and Leader of the Labour Party, Robert Abela, today, Sunday at 10am at the Labour National Centre in Ħamrun.
