Peppi’s story sparks call against animal neglect

In an emotional account shared with The Journal, Christa Cilia, recounted the heartbreaking moment of bringing Peppi home for the final time.

“This morning I picked up Peppi’s ashes and brought him home. He is with me again, but not the way he should be.”

Fighting back grief, she described how Peppi’s condition was not the result of a sudden incident, but rather a gradual decline that reflects a wider issue seen far too often.

“A dog does not reach this point overnight. Neglect builds slowly, missed care, ignored signs, treatment not given, until the damage becomes too much to fix.”

Her words highlight a reality that animal welfare advocates continue to stress, that responsibility towards pets is not optional, but absolute.

“Dogs don’t choose their lives. We choose for them. The moment you decide to have a dog, you take full responsibility.”
