A €14.5 million investment in education and innovation has been completed with the official inauguration of the new Institute of Information and Communication Technology at MCAST, reinforcing Malta’s commitment to digital skills and future-ready careers.

Prime Minister Robert Abela, together with Ministers Clifton Grima and Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi, inaugurated the new building of the Institute of Information and Communication Technology at MCAST’s main campus in Kordin. The building forms part of
MCAST’s Masterplan 2 and began welcoming students in 2024. It has now been officially inaugurated following an investment of €14.5 million, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund.

Covering an area of 11,900 square metres, the new institute includes 58 learning spaces. These comprise 30 computer
laboratories, 16 classrooms, five hardware laboratories, two network laboratories, dedicated game development labs, and
research spaces, including facilities focused on artificial intelligence. Students also have access to a green screen, a robotics
laboratory, and other modern resources that reflect the wide range of ICT subjects offered by MCAST.

During his visit, the Prime Minister met students attending lessons in various laboratories, including those dedicated to gaming, networking, robotics, and Raspberry Pi applications. The new facilities provide hands-on learning experiences and give students access to innovative equipment and technologies that enhance their training in this rapidly growing sector.
Each year, more than 1,000 students enrol in information and communication technology courses at MCAST, covering areas such as software development, iGaming, cyber security, and computer networking. The college offers a comprehensive educational pathway, starting from basic levels and extending up to Master’s programmes, to prepare students for high-quality employment opportunities.

The Prime Minister remarked that this investment forms part of a holistic approach aligned with Malta Vision 2050. He noted that the Government is continuing to incentivise studies in this field through various measures, including a 15% increase in student stipends and grants of up to €1,500 for parents whose children continue their education beyond compulsory schooling.

This project forms part of a wider €32.9 million investment that includes three new buildings on the MCAST campus, all designed to strengthen education, foster innovation, and expand opportunities for students.
