Labour announces candidates for key leadership positions

The Labour Party (PL) has concluded the nomination process for key leadership positions within its Administration and Executive. The nominations, which were accepted at the National Labour Center from Friday to Sunday, have generated significant interest.
For the pivotal role of Deputy Leader for Parliamentary Affairs, the PL’s Electoral Commission has received a single nomination, from Ian Borg, Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade. Similarly, the position of Deputy Leader for Party Affairs has attracted a sole nomination, from MEP Alex Agius Saliba, Vice President of the S&D.
Turning to the Administration, the race for President has seen nominations from Alex Sciberras and Norma Saliba. Louis Gatt has thrown his hat into the ring for the Vice-President position, while the International Secretary post has garnered nominations from John Grech and Georvin Bugeja. William Lewis has expressed his interest in serving, once again, as the Organising Secretary.
The party’s National Executive is also set for a new composition, as 38 party members have submitted nominations for the 12 ordinary member positions.
The party delegates will now closely scrutinise the candidates and their visions, and the results of the internal elections that will be held in a few days’ time will determine the party’s direction for the coming years.
Voting will take place on Friday, 13 September at the National Labour Centre in Malta and the Sannat Labour Centre in Gozo, and vote counting will be held the same day after the voting process closes.
