The environment is not just about nature; it is about quality of life, health, and the legacy we leave behind. Protecting our natural spaces while investing in sustainability is essential for a stronger, more resilient Malta.

This is what the Labour Party is delivering: a long-term vision that safeguards our environment, expands open spaces, and drives the transition to a greener economy.

A key priority is giving land back to the people. Three new national parks – at Manoel Island, White Rocks, and Fort Campbell – will be created, ensuring these spaces remain public and accessible for generations to come. At the same time, public land in development zones will no longer be used for speculative purposes, while existing parks and gardens will be legally safeguarded.

Open spaces will continue to expand across the country, with new and extended projects creating more green areas for communities to enjoy. This is complemented by ongoing afforestation and valley regeneration initiatives, strengthening biodiversity and preserving Malta’s natural landscape.

Sustainability will also be driven through smarter resource use. Investment in the waste sector will continue, including a new organic waste plant and a new waste-to-energy facility, turning waste into valuable resources while reducing environmental impact.

Water and energy systems will be strengthened to ensure long-term resilience. This includes continued investment in reverse osmosis plants, alongside innovative projects such as treating by-products of water production and placing them in the circular economy.

At the same time, Malta will continue accelerating its transition to cleaner energy. With increased investment in renewables, energy storage, and energy-sharing systems, the country is moving towards a future where sustainability and efficiency go hand in hand.

Together, these measures form a clear commitment: to protect what matters and build a greener, healthier Malta for everyone.

With these measures, Labour is delivering real change for our natural heritage.
