Labour delegates’ thumbs up

The Extraordinary General Conference of the Labour Party, convened on Friday evening, approved two amendments to the party’s statute regarding the election of Deputy Leaders and the appointment of new members to the party’s Administration and Executive Committee.
These amendments are related to changes aimed at:
i. opening the post of Deputy Leader for Party Affairs to both party members and parliamentary group members.
ii. allowing the post of President of the Councillors’ Section to be occupied both by councillors, as well as by individuals who are not.
iii. extending the term of the Candidates’ Forum until after the internal elections scheduled for September. This was undertaken via a procedural motion, in light of the announcement of the elections for the party Administration and the 12 seats in the National Executive Committee.
These elections and appointments will take place between 13 and 15 September.
