All indications show that Labour has won with an absolute majority, Prime Minister Robert Abela declared moments ago in a live call on Malta’s national television station.
This despite a record low turnout in Malta’s democratic history at 85.5%.
Surveys published throughout the campaign had indicated a very comfortable win for Labour, but fears over low turnout led to speculation that the PL would set to lose out on votes.
This is the third landslide victory for Labour, and the first mandate for PM Robert Abela, since his election as leader of the Labour Party in January 2020.
It is imperative that this resounding victory does not tempt us to look down on those who do not subscribe to the Labour Movement. We must strive for further national unity.
