With people heading to voting stations in four days, the Labour Party brought its campaign to Gzira, where Prime Minister Robert Abela pointed to global instability as a stress test his government has passed and a good enough reason to keep Labour in office.

Abela highlighted the restoration of Manoel Island as an example of how careful financial management has allowed the government to not only sustain economic growth but deliver public spaces back to the people. One example is the restoration of the historic Gzira Pumping Station – a project which will see new offices for the Gzira Local Council to improve accessibility for local residents and also ensure that the heritage of the site is maintained.  On the international front, he acknowledged that wars erupting since 2022 have pushed up fuel and gas prices worldwide. Comparatively, a Labour government shielded Malta from any fundamental increases on Malta’s cost of living. However, all of these projects cannot continue if people do not vote. Abela ended his speech by reminding the audience that it is ultimately collecting their voting documents and heading to the voting stations that will enable the Labour Party’s work to continue.

Candidate Samantha Pace Gasan, running on the 7th District, made a personal case for why she entered politics. A health condition affecting her ability to conceive brought her face to face with legislation being actively opposed by PN leader Alex Borg. She called on voters to back a party that puts people first and said only a Labour government under Robert Abela fits that description. MP James Grech reminded the crowd of the starting point: a Labour government that inherited an economy built on austerity and turned it around. Forward thinking, he argued, has been Labour’s consistent edge.
