International credit rating agency Standard & Poor’s has confirmed Malta’s A- rating with stable prospects. This is the highest rating Malta has received from the agency in the last ten years, confirming the country’s strong economic fundamentals and resilience.

International and independent economists have noted Malta’s exceptional economic performance, describing it as significantly stronger than that of Eurozone counterparts. Economic forecasts suggest that Malta’s economy will grow by more than 6% this year, with sustained robust growth expected over the next three years. This growth trajectory reflects the effectiveness of Malta’s economic strategies and its ability to adapt to evolving challenges.

The strong economic performance is attributed to a notable increase in tourism and private consumption. Data released by the National Statistics Office (NSO) reveals that tourist expenditure during the first ten months of the year was €500 million higher than the same period last year, contributing a total of €2.9 billion to the Maltese economy. This surge shows the critical role tourism plays in driving economic growth.

Although Malta’s fiscal deficit exceeds the European Commission’s target, experts note that national debt levels remain well within sustainable limits. Current projections indicate that Malta’s debt will remain under 50%, far below the EU’s threshold of 60%. This reflects the country’s commitment to prudent fiscal management while navigating external pressures.
