Malta is outperforming the rest of Europe, recording robust economic expansion at a time when many EU economies are stagnating. Strong growth, record employment and resilient domestic demand are reinforcing the success of the Labour government’s long-term economic strategy.

While much of Europe faces slow growth and economic uncertainty, Malta continues to stand out. The latest data confirms that in 2024, Malta’s nominal Gross Value Added increased by 8.8% , driven by strong performance in services, tourism, digital industries and domestic consumption. EU forecasts further indicate that Malta’s GDP is set to grow by around 4% annually through 2026, more than double the EU average. This positions Malta at the top of Europe’s economic league table.

This success is not accidental. It is the direct outcome of the Labour government’s economic model, built on stability, inclusion and long-term investment. Prime Minister Robert Abela and his team continue to prioritise steady energy prices, policies that promote social mobility, and a business environment that encourages investment. One of the clearest advantages has been energy price protection, which shielded families and enterprises during periods of international volatility. This kept costs stable, preserved household spending power, and protected industry from economic shocks.

Labour’s focus on high employment also plays a decisive role. Active labour market policies, improved skills matching and support for working parents have pushed labour participation to record levels. EU projections confirm that unemployment will remain low, at around 3% , which continues to sustain the country’s economic momentum.

At the same time, Malta’s government is transparent about the challenges ahead. The island’s rapid growth brings pressure on infrastructure, housing and public services. Rather than ignoring these issues, the Labour administration is planning and investing proactively by expanding transport systems, strengthening regulation, upgrading digital networks and ensuring that future growth remains sustainable. This willingness to confront challenges directly reinforces confidence in the country’s long-term direction.

Malta’s economic strength is the result of clear choices. By protecting families, empowering workers and investing in resilience, the Labour government has built an economy that continues to outperform Europe. In a world marked by uncertainty, Malta demonstrates that progressive leadership can deliver strong and stable economic growth that is shared by all.
