We have an opportunity in front of us to amplify our voice on the international stage, and the Labour Party’s administration should work actively to drive a new direction for international engagement – one that will position us as leaders in Europe, and beyond.

To achieve this, we must strengthen our ties. Malta should not simply follow the European agenda but help shape it. Our MEPs and politicians have the passion, competence, and determination to set the pace in key discussions that affect our future. We must be proactive, leading on progressive issues and demonstrating that Malta is not just a participant but a leader in European politics. We can start this by actively strengthening our ties with the Party of European Socialists (PES) and the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D) in the European Parliament.

Youth must be central to this vision. The younger generation represents an untapped source of energy and ideas. It’s time to invest in platforms that foster collaboration between Maltese and European youth leaders. Exchanges with progressive socialist movements, particularly in Scandinavia, offer an excellent starting point. Our focus should move beyond token efforts and towards building a bold, innovative generation ready to challenge the status quo. Malta’s young politicians, from mayors to Members of Parliament, are already making waves locally, and it’s time to elevate their impact to the European and global stage.

Malta has recently demonstrated strong leadership during our chairmanship of the UN Security Council and the OSCE. This has solidified our role in international diplomacy. Now, we must bring that same spirit of leadership to the party’s international strategy. Malta can be a hub for global dialogue by hosting high-level conferences and summits, where ambassadors, policymakers, and innovators gather to address critical global challenges. We must increase Malta’s visibility, and create lasting influence.

Our relationship with the PES and the S&D must also extend beyond formalities. We need to embark on visionary projects that push boundaries. Malta should spearhead initiatives that align with our values, and make a tangible difference across Europe.

Through education and active engagement, we can create a more inclusive, informed, and internationally respected Labour Party.

This is a pivotal moment for our party and our country. With the right leadership and vision, Malta can lead, inspire, and play an active role to transform the political landscape both at home and internationally. I am ready to be part of that winning team.
