All three Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) representing Malta’s Labour Party have been honoured with nominations in The Parliament Magazine’s prestigious annual MEP Awards, which celebrate outstanding contributions across key European policy areas.

MEP Alex Agius Saliba, currently serving as Vice President of the Socialists and Democrats Group, has once again been shortlisted for the “European Values Champion of the Year” award. This marks the fifth consecutive year Agius Saliba has been named a finalist, a record among Maltese MEPs. His nomination recognises his ongoing efforts in digital policy and consumer rights protection. He has been particularly commended for proposing amendments at EU level that reduce bureaucracy, bolster human rights, and enhance consumer confidence on digital platforms.

“This continued trust fuels my determination to represent Gozitans and Maltese citizens to the highest standard in the European Parliament,” Agius Saliba remarked.

Meanwhile, newly elected MEPs Daniel Attard and Thomas Bajada have been nominated for the “Best Newcomer” award, recognising the early impact of their work.

Daniel Attard earned his nomination through his active role on the European Parliament’s Transport and Tourism Committee. He has advocated for the aviation and maritime sectors, defended the interests of tugboat operators, and currently leads the Parliament’s Tourism Task Force, where he champions sustainable tourism initiatives. His work has also extended to human rights as Vice Chair of the Delegation to Iran, and he is noted for creating meaningful engagement opportunities for youth in EU policy making.

Attard commented, “This nomination is not only a personal honour but a reflection of my commitment to act as both voice and shield for Maltese and European citizens alike.”

Thomas Bajada’s work in the areas of water policy and marine governance has garnered wide praise. His approach frames water not only as an environmental concern but as a strategic resource linked to economic, social, and geopolitical security. His efforts aim to ensure sustainable and equitable access to water across all regions of Europe.

“We are preparing Europe for a future where pressure on water resources will only increase. This is not just about the environment, it’s about resilience,” said Bajada.

The Labour Party extended its congratulations to all three MEPs, expressing pride in their achievements and optimism for the remainder of the parliamentary term. “These nominations reflect the high calibre of Maltese representation in Europe,” the party stated.
