Mental wellbeing and family support put at centre of national priorities

During a visit to the Karl Vella Foundation, Dr Lydia Abela underlined the importance of mental wellbeing and family support, highlighting their place at the centre of national priorities.
The foundation’s leadership briefed Dr Abela on its free services for people of all ages, including individual and group therapy, psycho-educational programmes, emotional support, and educational assistance.
Key programmes include The Wellness Pod, which supports children and adolescents through creative therapeutic sessions, and Because You Matter, which provides emotional and psychological support to patients and carers requiring treatment outside Malta.
Dr Abela praised organisations such as the Karl Vella Foundation, stating their work shows how the protection of mental health and support for families are at the heart of national priorities. She said specialised programmes offered by professionals and volunteers are making care increasingly accessible, creative, and humane.
The Prime Minister’s wife stressed that the Labour Party remains committed to more initiatives placing people at the centre of its work, ensuring a healthy society where everyone can reach their potential. She noted the Int Malta Manifesto proposals are designed around this vision, aiming for more than a 25% improvement in the wellbeing of Maltese and Gozitan people.
