A delegation from the Labour Party visited a newly restored luxury hotel on the Birgu waterfront that is set to open its doors to high-quality tourists.

The Palace of the Captains of the Galleys is a historic building that has been transformed into an exclusive accommodation while preserving its architectural heritage and integrating modern facilities.

The investment was carried out by German investors who have been investing in Malta for the past two decades across several sectors.

They described Birgu as a natural choice due to its beauty and unique character, saying the historic city stands out as a distinctive destination when compared with many others around the Mediterranean.

During the visit, project representative Bastian Grosse Halbuer explained the extensive restoration process carried out in recent years. The hotel features 18 rooms, most overlooking the Grand Harbour, while others offer panoramic views of Cottonera and Valletta.

Deputy Prime Minister Ian Borg explained that this approach must be used by our country to further attract foreign direct investment of added value, while at the same time new projects are carried out without using untouched land by giving life to old buildings and turning them into high-quality hotels. He said that this fulfils the Vision Malta 2050 to make the leap in quality tourism in the coming years.
