PL has always been the underdog in elections, urges supporters to reach out to voters

Prime Minister and Labour Leader Robert Abela defended Labour’s latest electoral pledges while questioning the Opposition’s economic calculations in its electoral pledges, insisting that the Nationalist Party’s credibility was once again under scrutiny.

Addressing as festa familja event in Mosta, Abela highlighted Labour’s proposal of a €1,000 “super bonus” aimed at 175,000 workers, a measure he said would cost the state around €200 million annually. He contrasted this with the PN’s proposal under which, he said, nearly 300,000 workers would receive bonuses of up to almost €2,000, despite the overall projected cost being “half of Labour’s”.

“How can that be?” Abela asked, questioning the Opposition’s financial workings and arguing that inconsistencies in the PN’s figures were undermining its credibility.

The Labour leader also referred to the government’s proposed reform on succession laws earlier today, presenting it as another example of Labour putting forward detailed and concrete reforms.

Abela challenged the Opposition to identify any mistakes in Labour’s own calculations, arguing that while Labour had exposed flaws in the PN’s financial projections, the Nationalist Party had failed to do the same with Labour’s proposals.

He told supporters that all elections start at 0-0, insisting that Labour should still consider itself the underdog heading into the next electoral campaign.

“Did Labour ever have an advantage at the start of any election?” he asked.

Abela closed his address by urging party supporters to continue reaching out to voters and convince people to do the right thing, as Labour intensified its efforts ahead of the general election.
