At the opening of a mass rally in Naxxar, Daniel Attard MEP and Minister Byron Camilleri delivered a strong message centred on leadership, trust and rejecting the politics of hate.

Daniel Attard said that Prime Minister Robert Abela has faced a series of storms in his years of leadership and has consistently shown decisive leadership in the interest of Malta and its families. In a volatile geopolitical climate, with crises unfolding in regions such as the Middle East, he stressed that the priority must remain protecting families.

He warned that while other countries are increasing taxes, raising bills and cutting social benefits, Malta has continued to shield its people. Referring to the Opposition, Attard criticised statements that international crises do not affect Malta, pointing out how even a single storm had already impacted supply and highlighting the importance of serious leadership in uncertain times.

Attard framed the election as a clear choice, asking who people want leading the country in key roles, from Prime Minister to energy, foreign affairs and the economy. He questioned whether an alternative government would maintain subsidies and deliver budgets without increasing taxes, warning that old habits would return.

He also addressed political attacks, recalling how he himself was targeted, insulted and vilified, with no apology ever given. He said this showed that the Opposition’s disdain for the Labour Party is greater than its love for Malta, and called for a rejection of hate in politics in favour of unity.

Minister Byron Camilleri built on this message by focusing on trust in moments of crisis. He asked the crowd who they would call when facing their biggest challenges, and who they want to answer that call on the 30th of May.

Drawing on his own experience, Camilleri said he regularly turns to Prime Minister Robert Abela, even in the middle of the night, because he knows he will take serious and informed decisions. He contrasted this with what he described as superficial leadership, saying the country needs decisions, not social media reactions.

He referred to real situations requiring immediate action, including national challenges where strong leadership was essential, and stressed that Malta needs a Prime Minister who delivers in difficult moments.

Camilleri also pointed to government measures that have supported families, including energy subsidies, increased children’s allowance, tax cuts and assistance for first time buyers. He said these were possible because of stability and a strong economy, and warned that the Opposition would not hesitate to remove subsidies.

Attard emphasised that the election is not about surveys but about responsibility, urging people to reflect on who they trust to lead Malta forward. Both speakers reinforced the need to reject division and choose unity, with a clear appeal for leadership that continues to deliver for Malta.
