A week to polling day

PM and Labour leader Robert Abela today called on supporters to convince others who may still have uncertainties to speak up so that a solution can ultimately be found.

He said that Labour was offering a credible and competent team capable of turning people’s aspirations into reality. Don’t take things for grantged, he warned, reiterating that elections always start at 0-0.

With only a week to go, Abela told supporters in Senglea that the PL was presenting a programme focused on families, workers, pensioners and young people under the slogan “Int Malta – Il-Ħolma Tiegħek, Il-Proġett Tagħna”.

“A week from today we vote,” Abela said, adding that Labour was proposing “a programme for a Better Malta” aimed at continuing to support families and provide stability. He outlined what he described as a “positive and realistic” vision for a better Malta.

Abela said the party now wanted to build on that stability through a series of new proposals included in the Int Malta manifesto.

Among the measures highlighted were increased birth-related leave and the introduction of a right to flexible working arrangements to give families “more time”. He also spoke about proposals targeting young people, including assistance for first-time home buyers, higher stipends and further investment in sport and culture.

The Labour leader said businesses would benefit from incentives and lower taxes to continue expanding and creating jobs, while families with children requiring therapy due to disabilities or neurodivergent conditions would receive additional support.

This is what social justice is all about, he said.

Abela also guaranteed pension increases of “at least €50 a week”.

“We are coming before you with a positive plan, full of new ideas, a realistic plan and the best ideas for our country,” Abela said, ending his speech with an appeal to “Vote Labour.”
