Strengthening Gozo

Gozo has always been at the heart of Malta’s identity. Today, new proposals aim to strengthen that identity while improving everyday life for Gozitans in practical and meaningful ways.

At the centre of this vision is connectivity. Making travel easier between Gozo and Malta is essential to creating more opportunities closer to home. Foot passengers will benefit from free travel on the Gozo Channel, while those who rely on the Fast Ferry for work or study will receive support of up to €800 per year. At the same time, connections between the islands will increase by more than 25%, with more frequent trips and the introduction of an Air Taxi service, offering faster and more flexible travel options.

This focus on connectivity extends beyond sea links. Within Gozo itself, initiatives such as Tallinja On Demand will make daily travel simpler and more efficient. Alongside this, a programme of 100 new residential roads over the next three years will improve accessibility and ease movement across communities.

Tourism remains a key pillar of both Gozo and the national economy. However, the focus is shifting towards quality and sustainability. Tourism operators will benefit from targeted tax credits to upgrade accommodation and enhance the overall guest experience. Restaurants will also be supported through a €30 million fund to improve their offering, invest in staff, and modernise their premises.

This approach ensures that as connectivity improves, the visitor experience also evolves, delivering greater value for both residents and tourists. Importantly, eco-contributions paid by visitors to Gozo will remain on the island, directly funding projects that enhance its environment and public spaces.
