Labour is placing health and well-being at the centre of its vision, with a clear focus on prevention, better care, and modern services that respond to people’s needs.

Screening programmes will be expanded and offered earlier, with more testing for cancer and other conditions. A new National Screening Centre will bring these services together, making them easier to access and more efficient.

Mental health will also receive greater attention. Free mental health check-ups will be introduced, while services in schools, colleges, and communities will be expanded.

At the same time, investment in healthcare infrastructure will continue. Hospitals will be expanded, capacity will be increased, and advanced equipment will be introduced so patients can receive timely, high-quality care. A new robotic pharmacy at Gozo General Hospital will also prepare chemotherapy, bringing this essential service closer to patients’ homes.

Support will go beyond treatment alone. More people will benefit from free gym access, primary care will be strengthened, and services for older persons will be expanded. This approach promotes healthier lifestyles, independence, and dignity.

Alongside health, Labour is proposing a strong package of measures focused on disability and inclusion.

Essential therapies for children under 18 with disabilities or neurodivergent conditions, including occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, and physiotherapy, will be fully funded. This ensures that every child has the opportunity to develop and thrive.

Parents accompanying their children to therapy or medical appointments will be entitled to five days of paid carers’ leave, which can be taken in hours to reflect daily realities. Tax benefits for parents of children with disabilities will remain in place for longer, easing ongoing financial pressures.

In addition, the Carer’s Grant for parents of children with severe disabilities will be doubled, reaching a level equivalent to the minimum wage. First-time buyers with severe disabilities will see their grant increase from €10,000 to €20,000, helping make independent living more achievable.
