The privilege to serve

I could not turn my back on the party in its time of need.

The greatest privilege of my life has always been to serve.

Since the age of 15, I have been dedicated to the Party, rising through its ranks. I have always had a deep connection with our activists, delegates, and members, working selflessly to ensure that the Labour Party remains the biggest political force in this country.

I stand before you today to pledge my increased love, work, and dedication to our party. Together, we can strengthen the party and ensure its continued success. In three years, we will be a more organised, enthusiastic, and volunteer-driven party, ready to continue serving our country.

It would have been less difficult for me if I had not answered the call of Prime Minister Robert Abela and hundreds of delegates and activists to take this step. However, I could not turn my back on the party in its time of need.

Therefore, on Friday, I will submit my nomination for the post of Deputy Leader for Party Affairs. Together with hundreds of dedicated activists and volunteers, I am committed to work tirelessly to strengthen our party. I would like to express my gratitude to Daniel Micallef for his important work.

I pledge to continue dedicating my time and energy to our party, just as I always have. I will strive to address our challenges, build on our successes, encourage new members, and support our Prime Minister and administration.

I am convinced that together we can continue to make the Labour Party a winning party.

Alex Agius Saliba is a Labour Party MEP, the Head of the Maltese delegation in the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D) in the European Parliament, and a Vice President of the same Group.
