We’re sorry but the breath of fresh air does not seem to include women. The PN presented a very poor line-up in terms of the number of female candidates, reducing it to a whopping 25%.

The ratio between female and male PN candidates could have also been much worse than it is, as various incumbent PN male MPs, chose to call it a day – Mario de Marco, David Agius, Carm Mifsud Bonnici, Chris Said, Karol Aquilina, Ivan J Bartolo, and Robert Cutajar. Should these not have abandoned-ship during the current campaign, the disparity would have been much bigger.

And this is not just about numbers, the PN is failing to attract female talent for very specific reasons. Historically, whenever it came to women’s rights, it was hardly ever on the right side of history.

There is more than meets the eye to this. Because really and truly the PN has not changed much across the years. And this feeling reverberates within the Dar Centrali, and is the main reason behind this poor showing. When one puts aside the frills that are at the fore of the PN electoral campaign, it is a party that is stuck in the past that becomes evident.

And this is why women already chose to convey a powerful message.

Contrastingly, the Labour Party almost doubled its tally. A good 40 per cent of PL’s candidates are women.

Having female representatives in Parliament is essential, and the PN has already failed at this with a very limited line-up.
