Malta’s transformation under the Labour Government has been remarkable. Through steady leadership, sound economic planning, and people-centred policies, the Labour Government continues to unlock the islands’ potential, creating opportunities for all and strengthening Malta’s place at the heart of the European Union.

Since 2013, the Labour Government has set the scene for Malta’s transformation, despite facing a fragmented Opposition and its allies who have continuously sought to disrupt the Government’s work. Amid these challenges, the Labour administration has successfully transformed the country from a peripheral member state within the European Union into one that is now viewed in Brussels and other European capitals as a model to follow.

Confirming this trend, the budget, presented by Finance Minister Clyde Caruana, further consolidates Malta’s position within the framework of European Union policy across multiple sectors and themes. The various initiatives and proposals outlined in this budget were welcomed by almost all key stakeholders in the country, with the notable exception of the opposition, which once again failed to present its pre-budget document.

This year’s budget builds on the solid foundations laid by previous Labour governments and continues to deliver results that truly matter for young people, employees, and employers alike. The economic model developed over recent years, and the ecosystem built around it, ensures a steady flow of investment, job creation, and sustainable economic growth.

More than ever, the European Union is calling on member states to strengthen cohesion, competitiveness, and innovation across their value chains. Malta has responded to this call, and today stands out as a frontrunner within the European Union for increasing employment opportunities. This is not just a success story in progress; it represents tangible economic and social achievements that have been steadily realised over the past thirteen years and continue to grow.

The Labour Government, led by Prime Minister Robert Abela, remains steadfast in its commitment to support all citizens, despite the challenges that arise along the way. Looking ahead, Malta is well-positioned to continue bridging the gap with the best-performing regions in the European Union.
