Social accommodation projects in Birkirkara, Ħ’Attard, Ħaż-Żebbuġ, Siġġiewi, Żurrieq, Ħal Kirkop and Qrendi are expected to be completed within weeks, and allocated to families before the end of the year.
Further public projects in Imsida, and Bormla will see their new tenants by the first half of next year. Additional units rented from private owners will also be allocated.
With the construction and allocation of these units, the social accommodation waiting list, currently standing at around 1700 persons, will fall beneath 800. In 2023, the social accommodation sites financed by the National Development and Social Fund enter their final phases. This will push the waiting list further down towards ‘zero’ for the first time in recent history.
The projects currently under construction have adhered to all public procurement regulations, and unlike in previous social accommodation projects, no ODZ land was taken for these units.
