“We remain committed to continue our reform programme” – PM Robert Abela

“Although we feel that today’s result is unjust, we remain committed to continue our reform programme.” This was declared by Malta’s Prime Minister Robert Abela during a press conference, giving his first reactions to Malta’s grey listing by the Financial Action Task Force. PM Abela said that Malta has embarked on a series of reforms to strengthen our institutions. “A process which we genuinely believe in because we are, after all, a serious jurisdiction.”

“We will also intensify our dialogue to explain Malta’s achievements better, and ensure they are both acknowledged and understood by the international community.”

Prime Minister Abela said that Malta will never be uncooperative or obstructive, but will continue working tirelessly with a determination greater than ever before.

“We will intensify our dialogue to explain Malta’s achievements better” – PM Robert Abela

“We will intensify our resolve to fight money laundering and the financing of terrorism. We will engage with our international partners as and when necessary. And we will strengthen further good governance in this country, which will serve as a solid foundation on which we will build our future economy.”

Addressing Maltese families and businesses, he declared “my guarantee is that Gozo and Malta will keep on moving forward. This is my promise and commitment. It is my pledge with you.”

He appealed for unity, saying that now is not the time to play political games. “We are a small country. This means that for our voice to be heard, we must always be united.”
